FAMILY MISSION TRIP
-
Sunday, January 29, 2012
We will have a brief informational meeting for families who may be interested in participating in a Family Mission Trip for 2012. We will talk about dates, possible locations, work responsibilities and costs. We will meet after the 10:45 service in the fellowship hall for about 15 minutes.
THE TUESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY GROUP
We resume in February for a 7-8 week study on the book of Jude. This group meets at 10:00-11:15 in the Fellowship Hall for a time of study, discussion, and fellowship. We also always enjoy a time of light snacks and homemade refreshments. The study is open to the entire congregation as well as friends from other churches, family and the community. Begin making plans to be a part of this week-day Bible study.
The exact dates will be printed next week.
EASTER MUSICAL
We will be presenting an Easter Musical this year and will begin rehearsals for the musical in late January. Many of you cannot be a part of the Sanctuary Choir for the entire year, but your schedule may permit you to join us for this seasonal musical. Easter is on April 8, so rehearsals will be for only about 10 weeks. So come join the Sanctuary Choir in the formation of an Easter Choir and be a part of this exciting musical presentation for Easter.
Adult voices through high school voices are encouraged to participate.
WMU WORSHIP LEADERSHIP
Our WMU will provide worship leadership on Sunday, February 12 at the 10:45 service. We will welcome Dewey and Kathie Aiken as our guest speakers on that day. The Aiken’s currently serve as Mission Service Corps Missionaries (NAMB) for the program, Appalachian Regional Ministry.
Over 30 individuals representing 14 families met last Sunday to discuss the Family Mission Trip this summer. Dates, work, location, and costs were discussed. We will meet again on February 12 after the 10:45 service to hopefully make some initial decisions. Call Rick if you would like to be added to this list of mission volunteers.
Covered Dish Luncheon will be provided for our guest speakers, Kathie & Dewey Aiken on February 12. This luncheon is for those who are interested on further conversation about the Family Mission Trip scheduled for the summer of 2012. Please see Joyce Carter concerning food needed for the meal.
REVIVAL SERVICES
Revival Services are planned for March 11-14. We will have a Revival Choir for the services.
If you would like to be a part of this special musical group, please plan to rehearse with the choir at 6:30 each evening.
HOLY WEEK SCHEDULE:
April 1 – Palm Sunday
April 5 – Maundy Thursday Service
April 8 – Sunrise Service (time TBD) Easter Worship Service (10:45)
CORINTHIAN GATE, our instrumental ensemble, plays regularly for us at both of our worship services. We need more instrumentalists! Would you consider bringing your guitar, or saxophone, or flute, or violin . . . or other instruments, and join us? God has blessed you with a talent and skill.
Please consider using that with this group. We meet on Wednesday evenings at
7:05 in the sanctuary..
Music Groups at PGBC
There are a variety of music groups here at Pleasant Grove where you have the opportunity to serve Christ through music. Most of these are open to anyone and are available for new members to join as their schedule allows. Here is our normal schedule and information about the different groups:
Monday---6:15-7:00 . . . Pleasant Grove Singers . . . This SATB auditioned ensemble provides special music on a regular basis for our worship times. Their music is primarily a southern gospel sound. They also are available to sing at other churches or community events.
Wednesday---6:00-6:30 . . . Solomon’s Porch . . . This SATB ensemble provides a selection of contemporary music as well as “updated” hymn tunes and texts. They are also the primary music worship leaders for our 8:30 worship service.
Wednesday---6:15-7:00 . . . Music Time, Music Makers, and Young Musicians . . . these are the three choirs for children that make up our graded choir program. They sing for us occasionally for worship and will always provide us with seasonal music as well as musical selections at the end of their choir year. These choirs meet from August through May.
Wednesday---7:05-7:40 . . . Corinthian Gate . . . This is our instrumental group that provides most of the music for all of our worship services. The group is open to anyone who plays an instrument and desires to share their talent in the church.
Wednesday---7:45-8:45 . . . Christmas Choir and Sanctuary Choir . . . This group of talented singers serves as our primary musical worship leaders, especially for our 10:45 service of worship each Sunday. They provide traditional familiar anthems as well as new and contemporary literature. Seasonal programs are also planned regularly. The group is open to anyone, high school age through adults.
Ladies Rejoice is a ladies ensemble that sings for services or other special events.
Other groups such as Men’s Choir, Women’s Choir, Senior Adult Choir, Youth, and Handbell Choirs are used on special dates and programs.
