Pastor RickTUESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY GROUP
“Cast of Characters” will be the theme for our next Bible Study.
The study will begin on Tuesday, September 28 and conclude on Tuesday, November 16.
Topics will be focused on 8 common characters from the Old and New Testament who have done their part to serve an uncommon God . . . people like Joseph, Ester, Mary, Martha, Lazarus and Jairus will be examined as we determine how we can better serve God. Come join us at 10:00 on these Tuesday dates for a great time of study as well as a time of fellowship . . . food is always available!

CHRISTMAS CHOIR
Christmas Choir began on August 29th with a music review and Christmas party at the home of Edie Holleman. A very special thanks to her for hosting this years Christmas event. Over 75 people attended with about 47 of them participating as singers for the musical. Rehearsals began on Wednesday, September 1 at Pleasant Grove Baptist. Christmas Choir rehearses form 7:45-8:10 each Wednesday night followed by a 40 minute rehearsal for the Sanctuary Choir. High School, College-Age, and Adults are encouraged to be a part of this years exciting musical, “The First Noel: Born Is the King”. The musical will be presented on Sunday, December 19th.

HOMECOMING
October 4 is the date for our Homecoming activities in 2010. One of our own members, Rev. Mike Sowers will be bringing the message, the Sanctuary Choir will share 3 exciting new anthem arrangements, and the Pleasant Grove Singers will again offer a musical selection or two. Great worship, great food, and a great time of fellowship with current and former members will make this an extraordinary day. We will have one service that day . . . 10:45-12:00 . . . so come early, enjoy Sunday School and anticipate a meaningful worship experience at Homecoming, 2010.

OUR WAKE TECH BIBLE STUDY

“A Study of the Beatitudes” will be the 2010-2011 study that begins on Thursday, August 19. This group meets at 12:00 on the third Thursday of each month on the campus of Wake Tech. Please be prayerful for this group as they meet and actively share their love for Christ.

THE PLEASANT GROVE SINGERS
The Pleasant Grove Singers will participate in the morning worship service at Baptist Grove in Fuquay-Varina on Sunday, September 19th. They will share about 5 songs that will be integrated into the worship service at. Thank you for praying for this group as they serve in this way. The Singers are also scheduling a time to sing a complete program at Hickory Rock Baptist Church in Louisburg, NC. Originally planned for September, this program has been moved to November. Should this date not work, they will go there to sing in early 2011. We are also working with two other local congregations to arrange programs for their churches also.

On Saturday evening, November 13, we will welcome back to PGBC the Snyder Family Band.
This talented group of singers and instrumentalists will lead us in a 45-60 program of vocal and instrumental bluegrass/gospel music. They were with us about two years ago. It is with great anticipation that we will welcome them back to our church and area. The time of the program will be printed later. But begin making plans to be present for this exceptional musical event at our church.

We will observe Baptism on Sunday, September 26. We will observe Communion on Sunday, October 10.

The Baptist State Convention is scheduled for November 15, 16, and 17 this year.
If you are interested in attending and serving as a messenger, please contact the church office or speak with Jack concerning more specific details and responsibilities. .

Music Groups at PGBC

There are a variety of music groups here at Pleasant Grove where you have the opportunity to serve Christ through music. Most of these are open to anyone and are available for new members to join as their schedule allows. Here is our normal schedule and information about the different groups:

Monday---6:15-7:00 . . . Pleasant Grove Singers . . . This SATB auditioned ensemble provides special music on a regular basis for our worship times. Their music is primarily a southern gospel sound. They also are available to sing at other churches or community events.

Wednesday---6:00-6:30 . . . Solomon’s Porch . . . This SATB ensemble provides a selection of contemporary music as well as “updated” hymn tunes and texts. They are also the primary music worship leaders for our 8:30 worship service.

Wednesday---6:15-7:00 . . . Music Time, Music Makers, and Young Musicians . . . these are the three choirs for children that make up our graded choir program. They sing for us occasionally for worship and will always provide us with seasonal music as well as musical selections at the end of their choir year. These choirs meet from August through May.

Wednesday---7:05-7:40 . . . Corinthian Gate . . . This is our instrumental group that provides most of the music for all of our worship services. The group is open to anyone who plays an instrument and desires to share their talent in the church.

Wednesday---7:45-8:45 . . . Christmas Choir and Sanctuary Choir . . . This group of talented singers serves as our primary musical worship leaders, especially for our 10:45 service of worship each Sunday. They provide traditional familiar anthems as well as new and contemporary literature. Seasonal programs are also planned regularly. The group is open to anyone, high school age through adults.

Ladies Rejoice is a ladies ensemble that sings for services or other special events.

Other groups such as Men’s Choir, Women’s Choir, Senior Adult Choir, Youth,  and Handbell Choirs are used on special dates and programs.

Son-Rise is the name of our new early service of worship. Beginning on Sunday morning, April 25, this exciting yet shorter format will be offered at PGBC on a regular basis. The service begins at 8:30 and will conclude by 9:15. A time of light refreshments and fellowship will follow the service and will meet in the fellowship hall.

The service will be similar to our 10:45 service in style but will be shorter in time. Music, prayers, messages, and fellowship will make up the main parts of this service. For those who enjoy having their day to start earlier, this is a great time to join us for worship. It is also a tremendous opportunity to invite others who are not involved in worship to become a part of Pleasant Grove Baptist.
